MIS 2200 Assignment #9

Well, today is April Fool's Day, and I, unfortunately, did not pull any pranks. I have always loved April Fool's Day and the fun it brings with it. But this year I witnessed no pranks. I didn't know the history of April Fool's Day until I did some research on it today. According to wilstar.com, there isn't a "first" April Fool's Day. In 1582, the new year was celebrated for eight days, starting on March 25 and ending on April 1; the actual "New Year" was celebrated on April 1st. But then Charles IX of France changed the calender and had the new year being on January 1st. After word got around that the first day of the new year had changed, people didn't believe it, and they were referred to as "fools". They were sent on fools errands and made the butt of practical jokes. "April Fool's Day thus developed into an international fun fest, so to speak, with different nationalities specializing in their own brand of humor at the expense of their friends and families." It is a wonderful holiday that I wish I didn't forget about it this year.
